About Darol Anger's Republic of Strings:

Brace yourself for the wildly virtuosic playing of Darol Anger and his all-star ensemble Republic of Strings. With his unique genre-bending blend of bluegrass, jazz, folk and classical styles, the Grammy-nominated fiddler is a master of the unexpected. Toes are sure to tap as this crew whip through a hoedown, a waltz and grooving swing tune in quick succession, or dart from Swedish polkas to Brazilian choro before segueing seamlessly into a soul classic – all delivered with rollicking abandon and big heart.

With Republic of Strings Darol Anger recruits a new generation of brilliant players, along with acknowledged masters, for an ongoing survey of the international string scene. Darol’s unique vision comes into full play with arrangements of music from around the world along with new originals. For their Australian tour The Republic of Strings include 5-time Grand National Fiddle Champion, and genre pioneering cellist Tristan Clarridge of the sensational bluegrass group Crooked Still and notable singer and songwriter from the USA's Pacific Northwest, Emy Phelps.

More About Darol:

Fiddler, composer, producer and educator, Darol Anger is at home in a number of musical genres, some of which he helped to invent. Anger developed his signature sound working alongside great improvisers such as Stéphane Grappelli, Jerry Douglas and Béla Fleck, and has produced a huge array of critically-acclaimed albums over the past 40 years, including 17 with the legendary Turtle Island String Quartet alone. Exceptional among modern fiddlers for his versatility and depth, Anger has helped drive the evolution of the contemporary string band through his involvement with numerous ground-breaking ensembles including Republic of Strings. Darol has performed and taught all over the world with musicians such as Bela Fleck, Edgar Meyer, Tony Rice, Tim O’Brien, the Detroit Symphony and Mark O’Connor. Today he can be heard on NPR's "Car Talk" theme every week, along with Earl Scruggs, David Grisman and Tony Rice. He was also the violinist on the phenomenally popular Sim City computer games!

More about Tristan:

Tristan Clarridge is a 5-time Grand National Fiddle Champion and a pioneering cellist, synthesizing traditional folk/oldtime/bluegrass influences with rhythmic vocabulary from jazz, rock and pop, and leading a revolution among adventurous young cellists throughout America and beyond. He co-founded chambergrass innovators The Bee Eaters and has toured the world with bluegrass/nu-folk sensation Crooked Still, Darol Anger's Republic of Strings, and alongside music legends Mike Marshall, Bruce Molsky and Cape Breton fiddle phenomenon Natalie MacMaster.

More about Emy:

Emy Phelps is a standout artist in a large field, a prolific songwriter with a riveting voice which plumbs the deepest emotions. A musician of note in the Pacific Northwest of America, she has made a 30 year music career while raising 3 sons and one daughter, achieving degrees in Theatre Arts and Special Education, and touring for 7 years with Brian Ransom's Ceramic Ensemble.
